I was happy to find this flower in bloom in one of the containers on my back porch over the weekend. This perennial hasn’t bloomed in several years and after the harsh winter of 2014, I wasn’t expecting to see it this year either. What a delightful surprise!

Happy Memorial Day and thank you to my dad for his service to our country during World War II.
I have no idea why but he always called this holiday “McMorial Day” in jest! Was he possibly working at McDonald’s after retirement from the U.S. Postal Service and he didn’t tell me?
