The Toller

I love the name of this breed – the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever – “Toller” for short! I first ‘met’ this breed at the Harrisburg Kennel Club Dog Show a few years ago. They are bred to toll {or lure} and retrieve waterfowl and they are from Nova Scotia, thus their name. They have a water repellent coat because the were originally bred to run and play along the shoreline to lure the ducks in close enough for the hunter. I don’t like to think about the rest of the job these dogs were bred to do because I’m not a fan of hunting for any reason. Fortunately, the NSDTR is a multi-faceted breed that is at home in the water, in the show ring, and at home with the family. They are super cute dogs!
