I photographed this Lab at Middle Creek as he watched the geese flying around near the lake.  I have to wonder if he’s thinking to himself, “Wow — look at all those birds!  Can I please chase them?  Sitting here and watching is just SOOOOO hard!”

When not photographing the geese at Middle Creek, I focused my lens on the many dogs that were there enjoying some fresh air, great scenery, and wildlife.  Surprisingly enough, the dogs don’t bark at the geese.  Not even the sporting breeds.  I would have expected a lot of barking given the number of dogs at the park, but nope…they were all pretty content and happy to just observe and not try to go after the geese.  Don’t you just love the adorable face and curly coat of this dog?  I haven’t figured out what breed(s) it might be….maybe a poodle/cocker spaniel/otterhound mix?  Any other ideas?

The ice is slowly melting at Middle Creek and more snow geese and tundra swans were there today than last week.  I had serious ‘lens envy’ when I saw some of the fabulous long lenses that folks had at the park.   If you don’t have a nice long lens, bringing along binoculars is a big plus.  One gentleman that we met found a bald eagle while looking across the lake with his binoculars!  Eagles love to prey on the snow geese and as soon as the eagle makes an appearance, the geese take off in a honking blur of noise and motion!  It’s great for the photographers and in addition to the honking geese, you hear the click-click-click of camera shutters!  The blog image shows some of the children who were watching the geese last weekend.  This image has a watercolor effect applied.  Don’t worry … there are always LOTS of dogs at Middle Creek for me to photograph, too….photos coming soon!  🙂

As someone who grew up watching Lassie on television, I’ve always loved the Rough Coat Collie.  I think they have the cutest ears ever and a sweet gentle expression.

This little English Toy Spaniel seems to be comparing chin fur with his owner to see whose is longer….I think the pooch wins…by a hair.  Titling this post brought to mind a very old commercial for Ken-L-Ration dog food with a jingle that just sticks in your head….forever!  “My dog’s better than your dog.  My dog’s better than yours.  My dog’s better ’cause he gets Ken-L-Ration, my dog’s better than yours!”  Here’s a link so you can listen and have this little tune stuck in your head forever, too!

Okay now…everybody sing along….”My fur’s longer than your fur.  My fur’s longer than yours……” !!!
