Month: March 2011

From left to right, that’s Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse!   Aren’t they adorable?  This trio of Corgi’s won 3rd place in the Doggie Costume Contest at Pawsabilities in Harrisburg, Pa. on Saturday.  I love how Mickey’s ears are just slightly tilted off to the side…so cute!  I learned from their “mom” that if you say “ice cream”, they will all look at you….expecting ice cream, of course!

The Ultimate Air Dog demonstration at Pawsabilities was something I’ve wanted to see and photograph for a while.  There is a dock and a pool filled with about 4′ of water.  The handler throws the toy into the water and then sets the dog loose to run down the dock, jump into the air and splash down in the water to retrieve the toy!  So much fun to watch and the dogs love it!  Prior to the demonstration, visitors to the event were able to see if their dog wanted to give it a try.  Most didn’t!  They would get to the edge of the dock, see the water, and look up at their owner as if to say, “Do you REALLY think I’m going to jump in there after a toy?  I don’t THINK so!!”    I was trying really hard to get a series of images that included the dog just as he hit the water with the splash just forming.  Most times I have all splash and no visible dog!  This was one of my favorite series of shots …. just before the splash happened!   This pooch really took to the air!

This is laugh out loud funny and the most adorable trio you would ever want to see!!  How can you not giggle when you see the expression on Pocahontas’ face?  Priceless!  They didn’t even mind their costumes….unbelievable!  These cutie-pies won first place in the doggie costume contest today at Pawsabilities in Harrisburg, Pa.  Pawsabilities is an event to benefit the Susquehanna Service Dog organization and is going on again tomorrow.  If you get a chance, stop by the Farm Show Complex…and take your dog along.  There are lots of activities for you and your dog to participate in together.  Here’s a link for more info:  http://www.pawsabilities.net/

Pennsylvania – and much of the Northeast – was inundated with rain yesterday.  My area received somewhere between 3″ and 5″ in 24 hours.  It was insane.  Thank goodness for my waterproofing system or else my basement would be under water right now.  When I go outside of my house I can hear fast moving water which is flowing like crazy in a creek behind my neighbor’s house.  I can’t see the creek so I don’t know if it flooded, but it sure sounds mennacing.  Today’s blog image fits with the soggy mud that fills my yard and driveway as it features a dog and handler at the Devon Kennel Club Dog Show last fall.  The ground beneath the tents was really muddy as we had some rain just before the show.  I really think that if it’s bad enough for the handlers to be wearing boots, then the dogs should be wearing them, too!  🙂

Afghan Hounds are gorgeous with their long silky fur and graceful movement.  I’m sure that quite a bit of grooming is required to maintain their elegant and stylish look.  Last Friday was a very very blustery day and this beautiful Afghan Hound’s fur, which probably looked fabulous when he left the house, was blowing in the wind.  Doesn’t he still look glamorous though?  You would think that I had set up a big fan in front of him to achieve that wind blown look!  Nope, it was all thanks to Mother Nature!
