Month: April 2011

Dogs and cats love to lay in the sun.  But beware, they can get sunburned!  Pets with exposed skin or sparse hair are prone to developing sunburn.  Animals susceptible to sunburn should use sunscreen made especially for pets since just as with humans, pets who have had sunburn are more likely to develop skin cancer.   This Vizsla puppy was enjoying some late afternoon sun on an early March day.

How to win over the judge at the dog show?  Look them straight in the eye with the cutest look ever that says, “Pick Me!”  Of course cuteness isn’t what the judge is looking for…..they are looking for the dog that best matches the breed standard.  But come on…cuteness and personality have to count, too, don’t they?  🙂  This Tibetan Spaniel would have gotten my vote at The National Dog Show in November 2010.  I love this breed!

Back in January I posted an image of this very barn nestled in a snowy landscape.  Click here to view the previous image.  Today’s blog image was taken a few weeks ago after the last of the snow had melted, but before the Spring color arrives.  I’ve been wanting to photograph this scene for quite a while, but the light was just never the way I envisioned it in my mind.  On this day, however, the late afternoon sun was in the perfect spot to highlight the barn.  Snap…snap…snap…..mission accomplished!

I was looking through files to decide which image to post today and I came across 2 photos of Hickory, the Scottish Deerhound that won Best in Show at Westminster this year.  Such a pretty dog!  I hope she is enjoying her retirement on the farm!  These images are from the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club Dog Show – Dec., 2010.

When I go back through files of images, some stand out and I can recall everything about taking the image – the location, circumstances, weather, etc.  This image was taken at the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club Show last September.  It was a beautiful day and I was under the tent photographing dogs as they waited to enter the show ring.  The feet in the image belong to a little girl who was entering the ring as a Junior Handler.  She was wearing a cute dress, white tights and black shoes….which matched well with her black and white Border Collie.  The little girl was excited and the dog just seemed to be taking it in stride, laying down while waiting to go into the ring.  I love the expression on the dog’s face!
