Do You Know This Breed?

Do you know this breed? She’s a Treeing Walker Coonhound – a hound bred to track and tree raccoons. I was not familiar with the breed until I saw her at a recent dog show in the Miscellaneous Class. Even though the breed has a Hound Group designation, they are in the Miscellaneous Class because they are relatively new to the AKC. They will remain in the Miscellaneous class until a substantial amount of interest and activity in the breed exists nationwide. At that time they will move to the Hound Class. Raccoons of the world beware…this is one smarty-pants dog and she will find you! 🙂
What a pretty girl! I have three walkers as neighbors!! 🙂
I wonder if they’ll ever have the Black Mouth Cur in one of the shows…
That’s so cool that your neighbors have Walkers! I wish there were more at the dog shows. It’s a great way of increasing awareness about the breed so they can eventually get into the Hound Group. I don’t think that the Black Mouth Cur is currently recognized by the AKC. They aren’t listed in the herding or miscellaneous list on the AKC site anyway.
