The look on this Bulldog’s face makes me so sad! He looks like he has really had a rough day! Of course, Bulldogs pretty much always have that expression, don’t they? I think they are just so lovable! There were 22 Bulldogs entered into the dog show on this particular day and it was so much fun to see all of those grumpy little faces and wrinkly skin in one place at the same time!

It was shortly before ring time and this Old English Sheepdog was having it’s fur blown dry after a bath. This is the time when the handlers are hard at work putting the finishing touches on their dogs so that they look ‘just right’ when they enter the show ring. So, how many of you use a blow dryer on your dog vs. letting them air dry? My cats are terrified of loud noises like the vacuum cleaner so I’m thinking that blowing them dry with a hair dryer would be a very bad idea. [Yes, I do bathe my cats from time to time.]

In my humble opinion, collies have the most adorable ears in the dog world! Especially the rough coated collies! Those little furry ears that flop over on their head … oooh, I just want to touch them! This is a Blue Merle collie – blue merle being the dog’s coloring which is marbled and predominantly blue-grey and black with white and tan markings. Such a beautiful dog…and he’s smiling, too!

Doesn’t this German Shorthaired Pointer have a look of pride and confidence? You can really tell that he loves showing! That’s one of the things that I love about watching dog shows — seeing the dogs having fun in the ring and the joy on their faces! This guy looks really determined to beat all of the other sporting dogs for a group first ribbon! I do have one little comment though. My friends and I felt that the handler’s skirt ‘clashed’ with the coat of the dog to the point that it was distracting. You can see the pink patterned skirt in this image. Not such a good match with a brown and white spotted dog! What do you think? [My apologies to the handler!]

Do you know this breed? She’s a Treeing Walker Coonhound – a hound bred to track and tree raccoons. I was not familiar with the breed until I saw her at a recent dog show in the Miscellaneous Class. Even though the breed has a Hound Group designation, they are in the Miscellaneous Class because they are relatively new to the AKC. They will remain in the Miscellaneous class until a substantial amount of interest and activity in the breed exists nationwide. At that time they will move to the Hound Class. Raccoons of the world beware…this is one smarty-pants dog and she will find you! 🙂
