Month: November 2011

Say hello to “Tom Tom” [Gch Ch Sheeba Mark Twain], a sweet Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who I met last weekend at The National Dog Show.  Maybe you saw him yesterday on the televised broadcast on NBC as he won his breed and was in the Toy Group competition.  This image was taken in the benching area when he was being groomed.  Look at those beautiful wavy ears and big brown eyes!  I love this breed!  Below is a shot of Tom Tom on the blue carpet during the Group judging.

Congratulations to Wire Fox Terrier “Eira” [GCH CH Steele Your Heart] and her handler, Gabriel Rangel, on winning Best in Show at The 2011 National Dog Show Presented by Purina!!

It’s almost here!  Last year over 18 million people watched The National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day!   Don’t change the channel after the Macy’s Parade…stay tuned to NBC at noon and see some of the most beautiful dogs in the country!  Cheer on your favorite breed and let’s watch together to see who wins Best in Show and brings home the trophy!  [P.S.  I already know who won, but I’m not telling!  You will have to tune in to find out!]

Tomorrow when you take a moment to give thanks for all of the blessings you have received, be sure and say a special little prayer of thanks for the wonderful pets who enrich your life.  Then plop down on the couch with your dog or cat and tune in to NBC at noon immediately following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade for The National Dog Show presented by Purina.  Hosts David Frei [above left] and John O’Hurley [above right] will be ringside for all the action where dogs in 7 groups will compete for Best in Show.   [Herding, Working, Toy, Non-Sporting, Sporting, Hound & Terrier]  Which is your favorite breed?  Who will win Best in Show?  Find out tomorrow!  The suspense continues……..!

2011 marks the 10th Anniversary of the National Dog Show.  This is one of the few remaining “benched” shows in the country.  A benched show requires that the dogs remain in their assigned benching area when not being shown in the ring.  This gives the spectators attending the show an opportunity to meet the dogs and learn about the breeds and responsible pet ownership.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to see dogs in person that you may have only ever seen on TV or in pictures…and you might just get a few kisses along the way!  On Saturday the show opened at 8:30 AM with the loud speakers playing “Who Let the Dogs Out?” followed by our National Anthem.  Of course, there was a good bit of barking and howling during both!  By mid-morning, the Greater Philadelphia Convention Center was filled with folks who were ooohing and ahhhhing over the fabulous dogs in the show!  In this image a little girl gets to know an Irish Wolfhound.  Be there for all the action from The National Dog Show on NBC at noon on Thanksgiving Day!
