When I was a kid….yes, back in the Stone Ages….your sneakers, bike and sunglasses were put away in October and didn’t come back out until April. That’s just the way it was. It was too cold for bike riding, sneakers were made of canvas and not very warm, and you just didn’t see people wearing sunglasses much in the winter. So, it was always a sign of summer being on the way when it was warm enough to break out the bike, sneakers and sunglasses! Things aren’t that way anymore! Now bikes are ridden all year round, sneakers are made of leather and suede and are worn in all kinds of weather, and sunglasses are just good sense for protecting your eyes….especially from the brightness of the snow in the winter time! When I saw this scene it reminded me of the good old days when a holiday wreath on the door and a bike parked outside just didn’t happen at the same time!

Meet black Cocker Spaniel Beckham [CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction]. He finished 2011 as the #1 dog all breeds in the country and will be a tough competitor at Westminster next week. Plus he’s already won 3 best in show ribbons in 2012! I had the pleasure of watching him in the ring at the Chester Valley Kennel Club show last Spring and he is gorgeous! Watch for him on the green carpet at the Garden next week! Wow – so many great dogs to cheer for at Westminster! I can’t even begin to decide who will be my favorite!

Yes, I DO take requests, so if there is a particular breed that you’d like to see featured on the blog, just let me know! I had a request the other day to see more images of Pointers, so these 2 images are for Andrew! The top image is from the Group competition at The National Dog Show in November 2011. Below is a Pointer puppy at last weekend’s Lehigh Valley Kennel Club Match Show.

You really can’t confuse this breed with any other because of its unmistakable gray color. Known as the “grey ghost”, this is a Weimaraner. A member of the Sporting Group, this breed is believed to have descended from the Bloodhound and was originally used to hunt deer, wolves and bear. Now the breed has evolved into an excellent bird dog and personal hunting companion. I love the amber colored eyes of this dog and the frame-filling almost monotone coloring of this image.

Gosh I love this little Pekeingese, Malachy [BISA, BISS Gr. Ch. Palacegarden Malachy] ! Watching him with handler David Fitzpatrick in the ring is so much fun! They are like poetry in motion and Malachy hardly ever takes his eyes off of David…..except like in the left image above when he looks the judge straight in the eye and shows off his confident nature! I’ve had the pleasure of photographing David and Malachy several times over the last couple of years and I’m always so excited when I get to see them both! The Toy Group is going to be very competitive at Westminster this month…..but keep your eye on this pair!
