Running Around the Ring

I don’t often take a lot of what I call “running around the ring” photos.  I tend to concentrate more on the portrait or relationship type of image.  At the Penn Ridge Kennel Club show in Harrisburg on Saturday, the Group/Best in Show ring was very very large.  Thankfully there are always chairs available at the Harrisburg shows, so I grabbed a seat in a spot where I could photograph dogs and handlers running straight toward the camera.  It was a good chance to practice movement images – absolutely more difficult at an indoor show with not so great lighting.  This image was shot at ISO 4000, 1/500th of a second shutter speed, f/2.8 and I even over-exposed the shot by 1-1/3 stops.  To whomever invented de-noising software….thank you very much!!!   I couldn’t live without it for these images as the high ISO resulted in a lot of digital noise in the photos.  Since a flash is definitely a no-no at the shows, there were no other options but to up the ISO and shoot away!  Don’t you just love to see the movement of an Afghan Hound as they run around the show ring?  Stunning!
