I’ve enjoyed watching Australian Cattle Dog Hedi, “Ch Jems Cool Blue Diva”, since back in April when she was new to showing and just getting her paws wet in the ring. It’s been amazing to watch her grow and become a super show dog! Here she is with one of her favorite people, handler Courtney Norris at the Westchester Kennel Club show on Sunday. They adore one another!

What I saw first was the orange and white polka dots that the handler was wearing. Then I saw the beautiful English Cocker Spaniel at the other end of the leash. I like the description of the personality of this breed from the AKC website – they are described as being an active, merry sporting dog that is alive with energy! As I was beginning to write this post, I thought about the term “polka dot” and how that name originated. I did a little research. It seems that back in the 1800’s, the polka was becoming the latest dance craze in America. In order to cash in on the fad, manufacturers started including the word “polka” when naming their products. Thus, the fabric pattern known as “polka dots” came to be! There’s a tiny bit of trivia for you to share around the water cooler at work on Monday!

Oh how music brings back memories! Last night I saw Barry Manilow in concert at the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pa. What an awesome show! Barry is one of my long-time favorites and was a favorite of my mom as well. I remember when she was very sick and she had to do exercises to tone her muscles. The only way I could encourage her to exercise was by playing my Barry Manilow records. She loved him! Her favorite song was “Can’t Smile Without You” and I can still picture her singing along to that song. You can imagine the memories that came rushing back as I sat in the arena watching Barry perform. Life’s moments relived! Barry’s music put a smile on my mom’s face as she was dealing with her illness and he still makes me smile! Here are 3 photos from the concert….12th row center!
