Month: November 2012

I spend each and every Thanksgiving with David Frei and John O’Hurley!  David and John are the hosts of The National Dog Show Presented by Purina which is aired on Thanksgiving Day every year, so they are a part of my holiday tradition!   If you want to see some of the most spectacular dogs in the country, tune in at noon EST immediately following the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC.  Then spend 2 hours cheering for your favorite breeds and see who wins Best in Show!  The show will be re-aired on Friday night, 11/23, at 8:00 PM EST on NBC.  [Image taken last Saturday at the Kennel Club of Philadelphia Show in Oaks, Pa.]

Last year over 20 million viewers tuned in to watch The National Dog Show Presented by Purina on NBC Thanksgiving Day following the Macy’s Parade.  This year, the show will be broadcast at that time and again on Friday evening, Nov. 23rd, at 8:00 PM.  Will you be watching?  The show was filmed Saturday at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center and I can tell you that there was a stellar line up of exceptional dogs vying for the title of Best in Show.  You will have to tune in Thursday to find out who won, but rest assured that it was a difficult choice for Best in Show judge Mrs. Vicki Abbott.  Here she is with Kennel Club of Philadelphia officials getting ready to hand out the big ribbon!  Tune in Thursday to see who she chose!

My sweet cat Sebastian went to heaven last week after a brave and nearly 2-year battle with a mobility issue that robbed him of his ability to walk.  He never ever lost his loving personality and zest for life despite the challenges that he faced on a daily basis.  I miss him so much and hope that he is running free with his brother Socrates and sister Tara.  Home is not the same without him.

As if photographing moving dogs isn’t difficult enough, try photographing moving dogs that are flying through the air!!  This has got to be one of the most challenging things I have ever photographed!  The photos above and below are from the 2011 National Dog Show Presented by Purina.  They are nothing to brag about, but I am posting them to show some of the highlights of what you will see at The National Dog Show.  Lourdes Edlin and her amazing dogs were on hand last year to entertain the crowd with the dogs flying through the air to catch frisbees.  To say that photographing the action was a challenge is an understatement as it was difficult to anticipate in advance where the dogs would be in the air – especially with a long zoom.  It sure was fun photographing them and watching them perform!

This is a scene in the Reading Railroad Heritage Museum depicting what the conductor’s office looked like ‘back in the day’.  I love the old fan, phone, and lunch box.  Life was so much less complicated then!
