Agility Practice

Yes…cats can do agility, too!! Don’t underestimate the concentration of a cat who is chasing a toy through an agility course! They can be FAST! I saw cats running the course at the Sign of the Cat Fanciers and Oriental Shorthairs show in Easton, Pa. over the weekend. The agility course is inside a mesh enclosure to keep any wayward felines from escaping. I was told that the record time to run the course was 7 seconds. The kitten pictured above was just getting her paws wet with agility – it was her first time. The owner played with her for a long while at first just to get her used to chasing toys. Then they moved on to the course which includes hoops, jumps, a tunnel, stairs, and even weave poles! The owner led the kitten through the course by encouraging her to follow various wand-type toys with feathers, or streamers, or furry mice on the end. It worked like a charm, though I think the end time might have been more like 7 minutes instead of 7 seconds!
