This is my first ever photograph of an Eastern Bluebird.  I spotted it at Middle Creek Wildlife Management area in Pennsylvania.  As I was taking baby steps – with long breaks in between – to get closer, a family walked by and away went the Bluebird.  I would have loved to have come a few steps closer for this image, but I’ll take what I can get!  My yard is too wooded to attract Eastern Bluebirds so I rarely see them, despite having several Bluebird houses scattered around the property.  Their favorite habitat is open fields, pastures, parks and the like.  The blue color of this bird really stood out against the gray winter landscape at Middle Creek.

When did “feed the raccoons” become part of my daily “to do” list?  I thought that there was only one raccoon visiting my bird feeder, but tonight I saw two of them.  I guess raccoon number one is telling his friends about the new buffet in town.  They are nightly entertainment for Brewster and Savannah since the feeder is just outside of the window.  (My photos would be SO much better if these critters weren’t nocturnal!)
