He’s goofy, friendly, loyal, and he was definitely working the crowd this past weekend at PawsAbilities in Harrisburg, Pa. – an event to benefit Susquehanna Service Dogs. His name is Tuesday and he’s the loving service dog of Luis Montalvan. While Luis spoke to the large crowd and signed copies of his book, Tuesday was the equivalent of a Wal-Mart greeter….saying hello to everyone in line, mooching for treats, sniffing a butt or two, and poking his head in and out from underneath the table skirt. Normally Tuesday is working to assist Luis, but this weekend he was also socializing and having fun! People were bringing Tuesday treats and gifts and he received many kisses and scratches behind his ears! I was honored to have been asked to photograph Luis and Tuesday for this event and it was a joy!

PawsAbilities – an event to benefit Susquehanna Service Dogs – was a fun event for visitors and their pets, but it was so much more than that! There were many presentations throughout the weekend that provided opportunities to learn how service dogs partner with their humans to form a perfect team – each helping the other when required. In this image, a Susquehanna Service Dog is trained to help the person remove socks and shoes so that they don’t have to struggle to bend down. This was a remarkable presentation that showed the hard work and dedication by the trainers and dogs alike.

They’re best friends and they’re inseparable. I had the pleasure of meeting Captain Luis Montalvan and his service dog, “Tuesday”, over the weekend at “PawsAbilities”, an event to benefit Susquehanna Service Dogs, in Harrisburg, Pa. Luis served two tours of duty in Iraq and was seriously injured. Tuesday was trained to be a service dog beginning when he was just weeks old. Together they are the perfect team. Each helping the other both physically and mentally. I was honored to meet them both. If you have a chance, pick up the wonderful book that Luis wrote titled “Until Tuesday”.

“Oh granny, what big ears you’ve got!” is a sentence from the fairy tale, “Little Red Riding Hood”. This could be said as well for the Pharaoh Hound. What a beautiful breed – so graceful and regal. An interesting characteristic of this breed is that they blush when they are excited or happy and their nose and ears turn a deep rose color.
