I haven’t had the opportunity to photograph herons all that often, but just enough to know that they aren’t big on posing for photos!  They are very shy and often take to flight before you have an opportunity to get close enough for a good shot.  If you are quick enough to catch the take off or a photo of them in flight … bravo!   Otherwise, you pretty much have to be still and quiet or take the smallest of steps as you inch a little closer for a picture.  This one tolerated me for a little while, but when I got closer than he/she liked, off she went and landed on a boat dock in the bright sun.  I did take a photo of the heron on the dock, but prefer this image of the bird in the water surrounded by rocks and various types of vegetation.
