I was so sad today to learn of the passing of Davy Jones.  He was one of my very first loves.  Yep, I was a huge Davy Jones fan when I was a kid.  I watched The Monkees every week and day dreamed about Davy … what a heartthrob!  It was so much fun to have a chance to see him in concert several times over the years.  This image is from a local show in 2008.  Rest in peace, Davy.

Here’s something you don’t see every day ….. Malachy’s paws!  You know they are there, but they are practically invisible as his beautiful coat keeps them out of sight!  In this image, with owner/handler David Fitzpatrick taken at the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club show in Allentown, Pa. in December, the Best in Show judge is lifting Malachy to get a feel for how well balanced he is.  According to the breed standard, the Pekingese is supposed to be heavier in front and lighter in the back end.  I love the way that Malachy makes eye contact with all of the judges who handle him.  He looks them right in the eye as if to say, ‘Am I cute or what?’  Don’t you love the tufts of fur on his paws?  So cute!

Highly recommended reading is the book by Josh Dean titled “Show Dog – The Charmed Life and Trying Times of a Near-Perfect Purebred”.  Josh spent a year with Australian Shepherd, Jack, traveling to dog shows and meeting his human and canine friends to learn what it’s like to own and handle a show dog.  It’s a wonderful story!  Look for it at your favorite bookseller!   The blog image is of an Australian Shepherd taken at the Devon Kennel Club Show in Pennsylvania.  Now I can’t help but wonder if I’ve ever seen or photographed Jack in my travels….hmmm!

Being set up in a GOOD way!  This German Shorthaired Pointer is being set up so the judge can see his stance when being evaluated in the show ring.  I love the gentle touch of the handler on his muzzle as he guides his legs into proper position.  This image is from the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club show in Allentown, Pa. in January.

Hey, it’s the weekend – time for some silliness!  This dog’s attire reminded me of the all-in-one jammies I had when I was a kid – crazy print and all!  My jammies had feet in them, though!  🙂   This dog was keeping warm at the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club Dog Show back in January and I thought he just looked adorable!  He’s smiling, too!  I wonder if he’s secretly thinking, “Did they really make me go out of the house in this outfit!?”
