One of my favorite photography quotes is:  “If your photographs aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.” (Robert Capa)  I love frame-filling images that bring you close to the subject.  That may be the result of my love of macro photography, I’m not sure.  Even when I’m photographing landscapes, I often use my Canon 70-200mm lens so that I can bring details in closer or eliminate unnecessary elements on the edges.  When searching for images in the field, I’m always trying to figure out how to get close enough to compose the image in my camera that I see in my mind.  In-camera cropping may not be for everyone as it does reduce print size options, but it works for me!
