When I read the location of this year’s Lehigh Valley Cat Club show, I knew that candid photos would be a challenge.  The ballroom in the hotel where the show is held is very poorly lit.  Basically the lighting inside is just a few chandeliers and the lights above the judging tables.  Ugh!  Determined to see some gorgeous cats (and bring home new catnip toys for Brewster and Savannah), I went anyway and decided to photograph what I could and see what happened.  I had to shoot at ISO 6400 and f/2.8 to get any shots with my Canon 135mm lens, but it was fun and I do have some photos that I love, like this one!  (Dear Lehigh Valley Cat Club, please move to a different location next year!)

Carissa always gives her dogs lots of love in the ring … and they obviously show their love for her as well!   How cute is this image from the Harrisburg Kennel Club Show on Saturday?!

A happy accident!  I’m not sure where the dark background came from in this image, but it’s the perfect compliment to this snow white pup.  The shot was taken during group judging at the Harrisburg Kennel Club show on Saturday.  Possibly the handler or judge was wearing a dark color, I’m not sure.  A quote by Max Elliott is, “The process of art-making is full of happy accidents – what fun!”  How true that is!

Did you guess this breed correctly from yesterday’s post?  It’s the Spinone Italiano.  This breed is a sociable sporting dog that is an excellent hunter and retriever.  They are well known for their superior nose and super soft mouth.  I love their sweet expression and shaggy coat.  I am happy to say that I have a Spinone for a neighbor and he’s one very handsome fellow!

I had a blast photographing at the Harrisburg Kennel Club show yesterday.  Harrisburg is where I had my introduction to dog show photography back in 2006 when I went to the show for the first time, specifically to meet Colored Bull Terrier Rufus, “Ch Rocky Top’s Sundance Kid”, who had just won Best in Show at Westminster that February.  That day changed my photography life, plus I met one of the greatest dogs of all time!  For today’s post, can anyone guess what breed is photographed in this image?
