You know how it is….you hear a song on the radio and it immediately takes you to another place and time – a memory that’s embedded in your brain from days gone by. Over the weekend I was driving around doing errands and on the radio came the song, “I’m Sexy and I Know It” which immediately made me think of The National Dog Show. I must give applause to the person or persons who selects and plays the music at The National Dog Show held each November in Oaks, Pa. As each Group enters the big ring for judging, with the bright lights, TV cameras, and an audience cheering for their favorite dogs, the music just sets the mood! When Wayne Ferguson, President of The Kennel Club of Philadelphia and PA announcer asks to have the Toy Group enter the ring, “I’m Sexy and I Know It” is playing in the arena! Such a fitting song for those little Toy dogs, groomed to perfection, as they go around the ring with a ton of attitude!

Non-Sporting Group 1st at the Huntington Valley Kennel Club show last month was the Dalmation, Ian [GCH Spotlights Ruffian] shown here with handler Michael Scott. They are a great team!

Nope – these are NOT my feet. I’m not a flip flop fan. I like shoes with more support and protection than a flip flop offers. Plus, I don’t like things between my toes. According to many podiatrists, flip flops are not good for the feet [unless they are specialized flip flops designed with arch support, etc.]. Typical flip flops are especially tough on people with flatter feet because there is no arch support, they are bad for foot structure, and they can cause pain in the ankles, legs and feet. I have yet to find the perfect “dog show shoes” that keep my feet comfy all day when I’m standing for hours on end at a show. If anyone has any good shoe suggestions, send them my way! I’ve tried several different types of sneakers, Birkenstock’s, etc., but so far haven’t had much success. The only thing that makes my feet truly “happy feet” at a dog show is a chair! 🙂
