I love to watch dogs (and cats, of course!) as they observe the world around them. The smallest thing will pique their interest. Most often it is something that we, as humans, either don’t notice or take for granted. A bird on a tree branch outside of the window, the curtains moving in the breeze from the window, or even a dust bunny gliding across the kitchen floor! It’s fun to try and imagine what they are thinking as they watch intently!

It was a yellow slicker kind of day at the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club show yesterday in Macungie, Pa. The rain didn’t dampen the spirits of anyone at the show. In fact, it added to the photo ops!

I’m a photographer first … and a dog show photographer second. I don’t look to photograph traditional run of the mill images. I hope that my photos convey the heart and soul of the dog and relationships between dogs and their people, be they owners, handlers, or even spectators. If you see me at a show, I’m often trying to find a good vantage point from which to photograph where there is an uncluttered background. I’m looking for interesting colors, patterns, angles and expressions. Something different!

Can anyone say “Spa Day”? A walk around the grooming area at any dog show often results in some great photo ops! This image is from the Bald Eagle Kennel Club show in Bloomsburg, Pa. last weekend!

Outdoor dog shows in Spring can often be hit or miss weather-wise, but this past weekend was picture perfect in Pennsylvania for the Bucks County Kennel Club show. It’s one of my favorite shows of the year with lots of dogs, spectators, and photo opportunities! Here’s Greg Strong with the Lowchen in the Non-Sporting Group judging.
