You bet I entice Brewster and Savannah with treats when it’s photo time at our house! I also reward them with treats when we’ve had a fun photo session! Catnip toys, toys with bells, feathers, treats….they all work to get their attention for a picture! Treats (a.k.a. bait) are also a favorite of the handlers at dog shows so why not use someone else’s treats to your advantage for a photo? This Schipperke (dang I have trouble spelling this breed’s name!) is looking at the handler’s hand and treat while I’m on the other side capturing the moment.

Treasure your dog as your dog treasures you!

It was great to finally get out to photograph a show over the weekend! The sights, scents, and sounds were so welcoming after being away for a few months! I enjoyed visiting with my friends and seeing the dogs that I love to watch and photograph in the ring! So happy that, for me at least, it’s dog show season again!

Here is the same image as posted yesterday of the Xoloitzcuintli, only this version has the lead removed. Like it better?
Below is another image of this dog moving around the ring at the Westchester Kennel Club show last summer. I can hardly wait for “outdoor dog show season”!

I debated on whether to remove the lead in this image of the Xoloitzcuintli. It isn’t a necessary part of the image, however, it is apparent that the dog has something around its neck. In the end, I decided to keep the lead as I lean toward natural images with just basic editing (contrast, sharpness, etc.) The background in this image was very light as the dog was backlit on a sunny day and so I removed the background altogether just to keep the image clean and uncluttered. This is, after all, a very streamlined dog and I wanted a crisp image to show off the breed’s unique look! Who loves the Xolo?
