That’s all it took!  This Vizsla stole my heart at the Westchester Kennel Club show last weekend.  He/she was waiting in the group ring and looking very calm, cool and collected while posing for the camera!

The Westchester Kennel Club show never disappoints.   There are lots of entries, many large rings, tours for anyone wanting to learn more about dog shows, David Frei announcing the breeds for Group and Best in Show judging, and enthusiastic crowds!   The large size of the rings really stood out to me on Sunday.  Its tough to be in the right place at the right time when dogs and handlers are moving around a large ring.  I was shooting with my 70-200mm lens and just wasn’t able to get the shots I was looking for, so I added a 1.4 extender.  That helped to bring the action in a lot closer.  Loving this Colored Bull Terrier!!

It’s been a few months since I’ve photographed an outdoor dog show.  I’m looking forward to getting back to the great outdoors in the next few weeks as some of my favorite shows are coming up!  Photographing dogs outdoors vs. indoors is a whole different ballgame.  Each venue has their own unique opportunities and challenges!  Wishing for bright overcast, sunless and cooler days! (This is one of my very favorite images from 2015 featuring the Dandy Dinmont Terrier at the Bucks County Kennel Club show – May 2015)

Age is only a number….just ask Chesapeake Bay Retriever, “GCH. CABIN RIDGE’S MEGA MARGARITA” a.k.a. Rita.  She’s 11 years young and still showing like a superstar in the ring.  Here she is with handler, Kevin Bednar …. one of her most favorite people in the world!
