Who doesn’t get excited for the weekend?  Okay, well the folks who have to work on weekends probably aren’t as happy as those of us with a Monday to Friday job.  If I were a dog, the weekend would have me perking up my ears, wagging my tail, and doing a happy doggie dance!

“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.”

What I love about this image is the individual elements of the composition that come together to tell a story.  Yes, this Golden Retriever was at a dog show.  The Chester Valley Kennel Club show last month, to be exact.  The handler is on the left, partially hidden, but you know that she is an important element of this image.  Then there is the lead, connected to the very handsome dog, but you can also imagine that the handler is holding the other end high above the dog’s head.  Oh, and the bait — the food that is used to draw the attention of the dog.  The handler likely has the lead in one hand and the bait in the other.  The beautiful dog is the 4th element and is probably thinking, “Sure, dangle that above my head just out of reach!  You do know that I can jump and grab that in a heartbeat, right?”  4 elements combined together to tell a story without being totally connected.  What a fun composition!

I so enjoy watching the dogs and handlers in the show ring.  The dogs are doing their best (well, most of the time!) to show well in front of the judge.  There they are, focused on the bait, when out of the corner of their eye, they catch a glimpse of the judge.  For a split second, they glance away, maybe without even moving their head, to see if the judge is looking at them.  Then their focus goes right back to the bait!  This image is from the Chester Valley Kennel Club show last month in Pennsylvania.

One of my favorite breeds – the Gordon Setter.  I love the flying ears and happy doggy smile in this image from the Bucks County Kennel Club Show last month.
