A little high five for the photographer from Kaz Hosaka’s poodle, Sakura, “GCh. Smash JP Sakura”, at the Penn Ridge Kennel Club Show in Harrisburg, Pa. last weekend. When I was looking through my images and deciding which to post today, this one just made me giggle!

I don’t believe that I’ve ever posted a photo of a Brussels Griffon on the blog before, so today is a first! What took so long? I have no idea! I’m going to make a point of posting some breeds that I haven’t in the past so stay tuned and see how many you recognize. The Brussels Griffon is a toy breed, weighing 8-10 pounds. They can have a rough or smooth coat and colors come in red, black & tan, belge (black and reddish brown) and black. They were developed in Belgium in the 1800’s and kept as ratters in the stables. Now they are affectionate companion and watch dogs.

When I attend a show I normally have a list of specific dogs that I have been asked to photograph. While waiting for their ring times, I generally wander the show hall or grounds and look for other interesting scenes or beautiful dogs that catch my eye. I was waiting to see the Sheltie’s the other day and came upon this beautiful Yorkie who had just the sweetest expression. I cannot imagine this pup being anything but angelic, can you?

Imagine what it must be like to be a toy dog and have to look up so high to see everyone around you! This is Rodger, “GCH Yakee Easily Persuaded” – one of my most favorite dogs to photograph! He’s in the ring at the Twin Brooks Kennel Club Show in Morristown, NJ last weekend with owner/handler David Fitzpatrick who often gives him a “people’s eye view” as he carries Rodger to his spot in the ring. As a photographer I probably shouldn’t have “favorites” (or at least I shouldn’t admit that I have favorites!!) but heck I’m human and I do …. love you Rodger!

I don’t always pay a whole lot of attention to the judges at the dog shows, mainly because I’m concentrating so much on the dogs in the ring. This judge, however, captured my attention because she really seemed to be enjoying each and every dog that she met. A soft touch and warm smile must make all of those dogs feel more comfortable when she greets them, especially the newbies that may be in the ring for the very first time! I love this photo – it’s from the Lancaster Kennel Club show in Lebanon, Pa. last weekend.
