Thank you to all of the super nice breeders, handlers and owners of the beautiful dogs that I am privileged to photograph throughout the year. I am thankful for the opportunity to spend time with some of the most beautiful dogs in the world and have made a lot of great new friends along the way! Three new breeds were introduced last weekend at The National Dog Show Presented by Purina. One is the Chinook, a member of the Working Group and bred as a sled dog in New Hampshire. This breed is affectionate, playful and athletic and its name means “warm winter winds”. Watch for the Chinook along with 182 other breeds and varieties that will appear on The National Dog Show Presented by Purina immediately following the Macy’s Parade on NBC Thanksgiving Day.

Groups and Best in Show are judged in the big arena at The National Dog Show Presented by Purina. There are thousands of people, lights, TV cameras, a PA system and announcer, music, and a whole lot of photographers! I’m sure it is very daunting for some dogs who are not used to being in the spotlight at a large show. It was interesting to watch their reaction to moving TV cameras and the sound of camera shutters firing in rapid succession. Some were not at all interested and others paid very close attention and even barked at the TV camera. I’m pretty sure this pup is looking at me and asking, “Did you get my best side?” 🙂

I believe that this may be the first time that a Giant Schnauzer has graced the pages of my blog. It’s about time, don’t you think? What a beautiful breed! This image is from the Palisades Kennel Club show in Augusta, NJ and the handler is Cliff Steele.
