One of the top dogs in the country, Malachy won Best in Show at yesterday’s Back Mountain Kennel Club Dog Show in Bloomsburg, Pa. Malachy is a beautiful Pekingese and is handled by David Fitzpatrick. Watching the Pekingese move around the ring just makes you smile! I met a lot of super nice people at the show and enjoyed talking and learning from them. One couple, spectactors like me, commented that a dog show is such a happy place. I couldn’t agree more! How can you not be happy and have a smile on your face when you are in the company of over 1,400 wonderful dogs?!

This image was taken on a recent jaunt through Jim Thorpe, Pa. I took one lens – my Canon 50mm f/1.4 and forced myself to shoot with no other lens options. I find that to be a good way of seeing new compositions when returning to a spot that I have visited often. It was dusk and the light was fading fast. I didn’t have my tripod with me, which was another way of forcing myself to shoot creatively. I surprised myself with the number of keeper images from that trip. I thought I would post this one featuring a Halloween pumpkin before the memory of the holiday is totally forgotten. Daylight Savings Time ends tonight so now it will get dark an hour earlier. Even LESS opportunity for late in the day photography. I’m already counting the days until Spring!

Hmmm…..signs are often interesting if you read them closely. In this image you’ll see that the Marketplace has two floors of fine shops that sell gifts, antiques, foods, fine linens, jewelry, bath and body care products, etc. BUT….were the items sold in the stores all a result of the escapades of the “Dumpster Diva”? I don’t know about you, but I’m not so sure I want to buy food or body care items that potentially came from someone who was dumpster diving! Eeeckkk! I didn’t venture into the store, but I think I will next time I’m in town…I’ll bet there are more photo ops inside! The same image with a watercolor effect is below.

rerun LOVES attention! If you see him at the park…be sure to stop and scratch his ears….he will love you forever! I processed this image with software to create the look of an old faded photograph. Believe me, I have plenty of photo albums in my closet that are filled with images that have this “look”. And I wasn’t trying to achieve that on purpose. They are just so old and have been trapped underneath that peel up clear plastic for so long that they are starting [understatement!] to fade! Who would think that in the age of digital photography that I would actually TRY to create the look of a faded print? It kind of is nostalgic, though, don’t you think? Below is the original image for comparison.

When I started to plan my pet photography class, I knew that I wanted some classroom time, but also an outdoor photo shoot where we could practice photographing pets, hopefully with some brilliant Fall color as a backdrop. Not knowing in advance if the students would have pets that they could bring, I made arrangements to have a couple friends and their dogs on “stand by” in case I needed more models! 🙂 As it turned out, we had 3 students bring dogs to photograph, my friends Glenn and Trudy brought their dog to join the fun, PLUS, we met some new friends at the park! Among those new furry friends are Cashew and Sophia. They were out for a morning walk with their owner and stopped to say hello. Cashew is the Corgi and Sophia the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. I have to say, these are two of my favorite breeds. To have one of each as a pet would be a dream to me! They were so adorable together and both were great models! You can absolutely tell that Cashew is a show dog just by the ease with which he struck a pose by the log cabin at the park. What a handsome boy! Sophia is a little bundle of fur and a very happy dog. Her fluffy tail just never stopped wagging! I’m happy to say that I’ve been asked to teach my Pet Photography class again next Spring, so watch the Lehigh Carbon Community College [Schnecksville, Pa.] website/course catalogue for dates and times. I’ll be sure to post more information when it becomes available. Below are 2 more images of Cashew and Sophia! CUTE!
