Congratulations to Border Collie, “Action”, his owners & handler Greg Strong, on his first all breed Best in Show!  Whoo Hoo!  Keep it going Action!

Now that it’s officially summer, we need to remember to keep our pets cool and well-hydrated.  I saw lots of “hot dogs” at last weekend’s show and photographed some interesting ways that the dogs were being kept cool.  I’ll share some of those images down the road.  For today’s post I chose this image of a Flat Coated Retriever who looked like he could use a nice cold drink of water!  Below is another view…

Would you believe that this is a Standard Poodle?  Yep…I was surprised to learn that they can be corded….who knew??  I read that if left un-groomed, the poodle’s coat will begin to cord on it’s own, however, there is much work involved in maintaining a well corded dog.  You certainly don’t see corded Poodles every day, now do you?

While at a recent dog show I saw this scene and had to snap a photo.  While it is cute, I would have to ask the driver, “What are you thinking?”   This can’t possibly be safe for the dog.  First of all the driver should be wearing a helmet [in my opinion] and the dog should be at least wearing “doggles” to protect his eyes.  {Never mind that I don’t think the dog should be a passenger on a motorcycle at all!}  I’m sure the dog enjoyed the ride, though.  I couldn’t help but think back to my drive to the show when I suddenly had to slam on the brakes because 2 deer ran in front of my car.  Everything that was sitting on the front seat of the car slid forward and onto the floor.  I’m a big believer that dogs should be in a carrier or wearing a pet seat belt while traveling in a car for just that reason.  In the event you have to stop suddenly, they could be seriously injured if thrown about.  Keep that in mind the next time you take your pet out for a ride!  My cats only travel inside a pet carrier…no matter what.

This Tonkinese kitten is the cutest thing with 4 paws!  Can you believe those eyes?  Gorgeous!  This kitty is between 4 and 8 months old and in this photo is being cradled in the arms of a judge at the Cat Fanciers’ Association Show in Allentown over the weekend.  I watched and attempted to photograph a lot of the kitten judging and wow…can those kittens move FAST!  Especially when they aren’t used to being handled by a stranger in front of a crowd of people.  Needless to say, I have more toss-away images than keepers!  As soon as I snapped this one, though, I knew it was going to be adorable!  I think the kitten is saying “Talk to the Paw” or “I’ve had enough already, please take me home!”  🙂
