If you intend to breed your pedigreed dog or show him/her in competition, your dog must be registered with the AKC. The dog’s registration name generally includes the kennel name, can include the pup’s parents’ names, and then the rest is up to your creativity! In addition to their registered name, your dog will also have a “call name”. Once you learn this French Bulldog’s name, I think you’ll remember her! Her call name is “Honey”, but her registered name is “CH Crescendo’s Honey Not Tonight”. Don’t you think she has that “Honey, not tonight” look on her face? 🙂

The Pekingese is always the very last dog to enter and go around the ring in the Toy Group. This is because the Peke is the slowest moving of all of the Toy dogs. If a faster dog were behind him, he would just run right on past the Peke. This breed is so much fun to watch in the ring. Full speed ahead for the Peke is more like a very slow waddle, but it is most often described as a “rolling gait”. With those short little legs it’s just plain hard to move very fast! In this image the handler has picked up the dog after a slow walk around the ring in front of the judge. “Thanks for the ride, dad!”

Poor Elvis. All he really wanted was a big old hug! Elvis {GCh Lambluv Gambolon Blue Thunder} is currently the #1 Old English Sheepdog in the country and he’s awesome! He won his breed at The National Dog Show and was entered in the Group competition. Unfortunately, he came in 3rd in the Herding Group [Reckon, the Australian Shepherd was first] and judging by Elvis’ reaction, he wasn’t pleased! The triptych above shows Elvis ready to go down and back for the judge in the first frame. The 2nd and 3rd frames show his reaction after the judge made his final selection! I think he’s saying, “Mom I really tried, I did my very best, honest! Can I please have a hug?”

So I’m at The National Dog Show attempting to photograph this sweet Bernese Mountain Dog. A number of people are gathered around chatting with his handler and he’s resting at her feet and loving the attention. I kid you not, every time I clicked the shutter, he would jump up for a split second, bark, and then lie down in the same position as before. Not, AFTER I clicked the shutter, but AS I clicked the shutter. As a result, most of my shots of this dog look like the image below – a blurry picture of flying fur! It was hilarious! Thank goodness I reviewed the shots before moving on and realized, over and over, that I was photographing just his chest! Finally, after a bunch of tries, he stayed put and I was able to take a nice photo of his adorable expression! What a dog! He had everyone in stitches because of his quick jump up – bark – lie back down again routine!

Meet Ozzy … a beautiful cockapoo who was SO much fun to photograph! Considering that he is still a puppy, he was a quick learner and has earned “super model” status in my book! We photographed him indoors, outdoors, with his Santa hat and suit, playing in the leaves, in front of the neighbors’ floral display, etc. and he was like the Energizer bunny….still ready for more after 2+ hours of shooting! Probably by now he is snoozing because his tummy is full of treats, cheese and Cheerios! Good boy Ozzy!
