Three Goldens

I always say that I’m a photographer first and a pet photographer second.  By that I mean that I bring all of my years of nature, macro, landscape, and architectural photography to the table when I’m photographing dogs and cats.  Because of that, I lean toward trying to shoot on a more creative level than a documentary level.  Often it seems that dog owners or handlers are looking for images showing their dog’s movement in the show ring, while I’m more apt to be shooting close up portraits,  images that show the dog’s personality, or just something that catches my eye creatively.  For example in this image, I’m shooting  a repeating pattern with 3 elements…pretty standard from a compositional point of view.  Now notice how the three Golden Retriever’s heads are gradually tipping backward as you move from the dog in front to the dog in back.  That wasn’t planned, but I like it!

    Hey Betsy,

GREAT pix of the best doggies going!

I live in Florida now but am coming to PA the end of August. I’d love to meet you and have you take a few shots of my golden. She is going to be 8yrs old this year and there is a pose of her’s I have been unable to capture that I really need to have. You’ll love it too if we can capture it! Doesn’t take much to get her to do it…..just a “fake” throw of a toy and she is just precious with her facial expression of not knowing where it went.

Will you be in the Jim Thorpe area then?

    Hi Kathy –
I would love to photograph your Golden! Thank you for thinking of me and I can’t wait to meet your pup! Goldens have such sweet expressions, don’t they? How cool would it be to take a few shots of her in and around the Victorian architecture in Jim Thorpe, too? Let’s keep in touch as August gets closer!
    Betsy
