I love this photo of Trader (Gr. Ch. CR Wicca’s Trade Secret) – one of the top Akita’s in the country. I did this photo shoot with Trader at the Westchester Kennel Club Show last Fall. What a patient dog he was! Isn’t he a handsome lad? Love him!

There are so many different groups of people represented at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area during the snow geese migration. First you have the true blue birders who have magnificent binoculars and can name every bird that flies by including their scientific classification. Then there are the photographers….which vary from the serious wildlife folks with the 6 zillion mm camouflage lenses right down to the people taking photos with their cell phones! You also see the families with kids and dogs just out for a hike and to witness the migration without worrying about recording the moment through photos. When the wildlife activity slows down, I usually turn my lens to the people and dogs at the park as there always seems to be something of interest that catches my eye. In this instance, it was an older gentleman watching the wildlife activity through his binoculars.

Yesterday’s post featured the snow geese at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area blasting off in huge numbers! Today, the opposite – 3 snow geese coming in for a landing! I love watching these birds land! They are so graceful as they glide along, just dropping their legs to touch down at the last minute. Here they are ready to join thousands of other snow geese on the ground at Middle Creek.

They’re baaack! The snow geese have returned to Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area in Pennsylvania….by the tens of thousands! Middle Creek is a stop over point on the migration path of the snow geese every year between mid-February and mid-March. It’s an exhilarating sight to see THAT MANY geese take to flight all at the same time! I never tire of watching and hearing the sound of so many wings flapping simultaneously! So cool! Speaking of cool…..it was doggone COLD today standing outside in the field watching the geese for several hours, but well worth it to see this miracle of nature!
