I really should have taken time to investigate how this image was possible.  It was ring side at the Harrisburg, Pa. Kennel Club show last weekend.  Somehow this Pug was able to see out of the top of the crate despite the fact that the crate was much taller than the dog.  My imagination tells me that there was another Pug inside and this dog was standing on it’s back!  Or maybe there was a little step stool inside the crate for the Pug to stand on?  Or maybe this dog just has REALLY long legs!  What do you think?  🙂

It’s taken me YEARS to learn all of the breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club, and I still mix them up sometimes.  I occasionally look at the standards when I wish to know more about a particular breed, but I honestly wouldn’t know which were the most “correct” dogs when watching breeds being judged.  That’s the difference between me the photographer and all of my dog show friends.  They really KNOW a great dog when they see one and I just know that they are all so stinkin’ cute that I can’t help but want to photograph each and every one!  When I was a little kid I used to look up “dogs” in my World Book Encyclopedia and marvel at the variety of the breeds.  The Skye Terrier was always one of my top favorites, even though I had never seen one in person!  I just love their unique look!  This is Ch. Gleanntan Wonderful Wizard of Oz – “Gus” -the breed and Group 4 winner on Sunday in Harrisburg Pa.

….or as she is more commonly known to her friends, “BK”!  It was love at first WOOF for me when I met BK in Harrisburg, Pa. over the weekend!  She is a gorgeous Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who just so happened to win Best of Breed on Saturday.  Congratulations to BK and her owner/handler, Tracie Laliberte!

The second I shot this image I knew that it was going to be a favorite from a very fun weekend of dog shows in Harrisburg, Pa.  I was watching the French Bulldog judging and this particular pup was sitting ring side with it’s handler, all the while watching the Anatolian Shepherds being judged in the next ring.  I have no idea what the Shepherd’s name is, but “Ralphie” just fits this image perfectly and in my mind the Frenchie is thinking “Hey Ralphie, you’re looking good!”  🙂

I love photographing the Sphynx – they are so unique!  Very textural, too, with all of their wrinkles!  This hairless breed of cat actually isn’t completely hairless.  Fine down covers the skin of most Sphynx cats.  Their skin is warm and oh so soft to the touch!  How can you not love that face?
