What’s the best light for dog show photography? Bright overcast. Sun is definitely not your friend when it comes to outdoor pet photography. Yesterday dawned cloudy with a threat of showers, but the rain held off and the light made for super nice photos at the dog show. There are still the challenges faced by shooting both under a tent where there is less light and out in the open rings, so the need to change settings frequently is a way of life, but I couldn’t have been happier with yesterday’s weather.

I finally was able to go to a dog show this weekend and take some photos. What a great feeling to see my friends again – both 2 legged and 4 legged! It’s been a long time and thankfully my elbow held up throughout the day. This photo is from the Hunterdon Hills Kennel Club show in Ringoes, NJ. What a sweet moment in the ring between dog and handler! I’ll post more photos from the show all this week!

These are homes (some still occupied) in the old mining village of Eckley, Pennsylvania. The town was founded in 1854 and originally housed coal miners and their families so they would be in close proximity to the collieries. At that time the population was about 1,000 people. Today, less than 20. The town has a museum and buildings open for tours during special events throughout the year.
