Today would have been my dad’s 100th birthday.  He was born 4/30/1915.  I recall that dad enjoyed taking a mid-day nap on the weekends from time to time.  Being the little instigator that I was, I would go over and poke him and ask, “Dad, are you sleeping?”  He would always respond, “No, not sleeping, just resting my eyes.”  If dad was “resting his eyes” and I tickled the bottom of his feet, he would let out a scream that the whole neighborhood could hear.   That’s what I think Brewster is doing in this photo… sitting in the window and just resting his eyes.  I bet if I poked him, he would bounce right up and be ready for playtime.  I don’t think he would mind if I tickled his paws, either.  Dad would have loved Brewster.

You bet I entice Brewster and Savannah with treats when it’s photo time at our house!  I also reward them with treats when we’ve had a fun photo session!  Catnip toys, toys with bells, feathers, treats….they all work to get their attention for a picture!  Treats (a.k.a. bait) are also a favorite of the handlers at dog shows so why not use someone else’s treats to your advantage for a photo?  This Schipperke (dang I have trouble spelling this breed’s name!) is looking at the handler’s hand and treat while I’m on the other side capturing the moment.

The tender young flowers of Spring are in bloom!  I remember the days, not so very long ago, when I would sit, kneel, or stoop down low to the ground with my trusty macro lens and photograph at Longwood Gardens.  Now I find myself looking for potted varieties that I can bring up to a higher level to photograph more easily.  Getting up from those positions is becoming more and more difficult!  Either I’m old, or really out of practice (er…shape!) … or both!

I am in LOVE with this little guy’s chubby cheeks!  How can you resist this adorable face?  This kitty was entered in the Household Pet category at the Lehigh Valley Cat Club show over the weekend.  So cute!
