A weekend canoe ride on the lake…what a peaceful way to spend an afternoon!

Nature’s splash of Fall color is emerging in my area.  Yesterday I visited 3 different lakes – all within about 10 miles of each other – and it was surprising to see the amount of variation in the color.  This image was made during a quick stop on the way home from lake #3.  I just couldn’t pass up that flash of orange-red as the late afternoon sun hit the trees.

The Newfie.  Did you know that the Newfoundland is a master at long-distance swimming and has life-saving instincts in the water?  I learn something new everyday about dogs!

On deck waiting for their turn to meet the judge at the Westchester Kennel Club show earlier this month is Portugese Podengo Pequenos, “Ketka’s Benchmark Pendragon” and handler.  This breed is a National Dog of Portugal and first came to the United States in the 1990’s. They are bred for hunting by sight, scent and hearing and are very energetic and intelligent.  Cute as can be, too!

I love getting up close and personal with the dogs that I photograph!
