I spent some time today at the Kutztown Folk Festival in Kutztown, Pa. – a fun place to photograph! This image features a couple “hoedowning” on one of the entertainment stages. Hoedowning is a type of folk or square dance. It was 97 degrees outside today so I really felt for them out there kicking up their heels, but they made it look effortless! Tomorrow is the last day of the festival which celebrates the Pennsylvania Dutch Culture through exhibits, crafts, demonstrations, food, and entertainment. It’s always on my summer “to do” list. If you live in the area, check it out.

My dad was an artist. He loved oil, acrylic and watercolor painting and spent many hours creating art that now hangs in my home. We used to take day trips on weekends and when he saw something that he might like to paint, I would photograph the scene and he would use the image as a basis for creating his art, always adding special touches to make it his own. When I saw this woman painting the dogwood trees on location at the park, it reminded me of my dad. He would have loved this spot and in my mind he was there with his easel and paints, creatively capturing the colors of Spring on his canvas.

The New Brunswick Kennel Club Show in Edison, NJ on March 23, 2013 was dedicated to the memory of Colored Bull Terrier “Ch. Rocky Top’s Sundance Kid” – Rufus – who won Best in Show at Westminster in 2006 and was an exceptional therapy dog and ambassador for bully breeds. Rufus passed away in August 2012. Owners Tom and Barb Bishop were on hand for the weekend along with Rufus’ grandson, Jefferson, who I photographed snuggling with dad during the show on Sunday. It was wonderful to see so many bull terriers and especially fun to visit with Tom, Barb and Jefferson!
