Kids & dogs….they just go together naturally!  And what better place to help children learn about different breeds than a dog show!  The Harrisburg Kennel Club show always has a “Meet the Breeds” area where throughout the day various dogs are on hand with their owners or handlers.  Visitors are encouraged to come and learn about the breeds….especially children.  All of the dogs love the extra attention they receive and it’s so much fun to watch the faces of the children when they meet a new dog, get a big smooch, or can bury their face in a thick coat of fur!  There is plenty of tail wagging going on, that’s for sure!

I just couldn’t resist snapping this image of a mom and her children watching the snow goose  migration at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area.  I am always torn about the appropriateness of photographing strangers without their permission.  In my mind I justify that if the people are in a public place, then it’s okay, but I don’t always feel comfortable.  Still, this was such a sweet scene that I couldn’t help but take a quick photo.  The family is likely Mennonite or Amish and all 3 were wearing rubber clogs and trying their best to keep warm on a very windy day.  I processed this with a watercolor effect and added some vignetting.

Pennsylvania – and much of the Northeast – was inundated with rain yesterday.  My area received somewhere between 3″ and 5″ in 24 hours.  It was insane.  Thank goodness for my waterproofing system or else my basement would be under water right now.  When I go outside of my house I can hear fast moving water which is flowing like crazy in a creek behind my neighbor’s house.  I can’t see the creek so I don’t know if it flooded, but it sure sounds mennacing.  Today’s blog image fits with the soggy mud that fills my yard and driveway as it features a dog and handler at the Devon Kennel Club Dog Show last fall.  The ground beneath the tents was really muddy as we had some rain just before the show.  I really think that if it’s bad enough for the handlers to be wearing boots, then the dogs should be wearing them, too!  🙂

Well here’s something you don’t see every day….. a 3-week old baby goat that wears a pink collar with rhinestones and walks on a leash!   How adorable is THAT!

….and you might not need that extra long lens!!  🙂  Most everyone visiting Middle Creek to see the geese migration either has a camera or binoculars.  The whole idea is to watch nature at its best and hopefully get some nice close up images of the snow geese, tundra swans, gulls, and maybe even a bald eagle or hawk.  So many photographers have fabulous long lenses to try and bring the sometimes far-away birds up close in the camera.  In this image the photographer is gazing out toward the lake, waiting for an opportunity for some close-up images of the birds.  Hmm…..I don’t think he needed to look very far!
