As I was driving home this afternoon, I saw a familiar sight in the distance and immediately recognized the flight pattern of snow geese!  It was dusk and they were returning to the fields to roost for the night.  I was totally unprepared to photograph them, but was on my way home from a super fun puppy photo shoot, so I had some gear in the car.  I had heard that there were snow geese in various areas of the Lehigh Valley, but have never ventured out to look for them.   I drove in the direction of the geese, following them in the sky until I came upon the field where they were landing.  I had a few minutes of unexpected fun photographing the geese in a brand new location!  This one is a favorite – snow geese silhouetted against the sky at dusk.

This wreath and the row of trees caught my eye one day last week when I was driving on the road alongside the cemetery.  I forgot about it until the snow came over the weekend and then I decided to take a ride and see if my vision was what I expected when I was in the cemetery and closer to the subject.  Seeing all of the Christmas wreaths with bright red bows decorating the graves reminds of those I am missing this holiday season … and every day of the year.

Wishing everyone, near and far, a happy, healthy New Year!

I’ve only ever had the privilege of photographing bluebirds a few times and all were last winter at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area.  Bluebird populations have decreased so it is important to place nesting boxes in appropriate areas in order to help conserve local bird populations.  I was hopeful that I could attract bluebirds to our yard, but the area is too wooded.  Bluebirds like an open habitat, which is why you often see bluebird houses in open fields and rural countryside.  This one was mounted on a fence in a garden area at Burnside Plantation in Bethlehem, Pa.

I have been seriously neglecting my blog over the past few months and mostly just uploading images directly to Facebook or Instagram from my phone.  It’s been a while since I dedicated some time to going out and photographing a particular location with my Canon 7D.  Mostly I’ve been grabbing shots here and there on my daily routine with the iPhone 7 plus.  I must admit that I do enjoy the ability to take a few images on the spur of the moment without having to carry around the Canon gear.  A few weekends ago I spent a day in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and shot this image at Burnside Plantation using the Canon 28-70mm.  It was fun to walk around in the crisp cool air and be the only person in this spot on a chilly afternoon.  I was particularly drawn to the old barns and the weeping willow trees in the background.  They are always among the first trees to show color in Spring and even now, in December, they add some life to an otherwise drab landscape.
