As we honor those who have died in service to their country this Memorial Day, this cute little guy reminds us of the importance of praying for peace so that more service men and women do not lose their lives. Enjoy the weekend, while always keeping in mind the meaning of the holiday.

What does every well-dressed dog handler keep in his back pocket? Why, a yellow stuffed bone, of course! It was fun to see this gentleman dressed in a very nice suit with a dog toy sticking out of the back pocket! He was handling the Beagle in the Hound Group judging at the Chester Valley Kennel Club show and so I guess it’s safe to assume that this Beagle loved his stuffed bone!

Mom’s favorite flower was Lily of the Valley. She was born in May, and it’s the birth flower for this month. I’ve planted Lily of the Valley several times in my garden, so far without much success. I have one little plant that is still in the container from last year. It bloomed this month and since it’s doing well in the pot, I’m almost afraid to plant it in the ground. Why tamper with success? Still, I would love to have a large flower bed filled with them each spring. Maybe I’ll buy more topsoil and try a raised flower bed like I did with the bulbs that I recently planted. If I’m not successful, I’ll be back at the garden center buying more next Spring. This blog image is from the few flowers that I was blessed with this year.

Seeing a Komondor in person is a real treat! Their dense, naturally-forming corded coat is amazing. A Komondor is not a herding dog, but instead a “flock guardian”. His coat serves to protect him in case of attack, helps him blend in with his flock, and protects him from extreme weather conditions. The cords are described as feeling like felt and require much time and effort in grooming. As you can see from the photos above, this is a large breed dog and as shown in the top image, he is quite capable of giving his owner a hug when standing on his hind legs.

Just fooling around with the Lensbaby 3G and this flower in my garden that I haven’t yet identified. Anybody know what it is?
