Schlicher’s Covered Bridge was built in 1882 and is located in Lehigh County, Pa.  The current version is a reconstructed replica of the original which was replaced in 2013 for safety reasons due to extreme deterioration.  This bridge is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and crosses the Jordan Creek.  It is sometimes referred to as the “deer pen bridge” since it is surrounded by the Trexler-Lehigh County Game Preserve and deer are often seen grazing nearby.  My dad and I would often drive around the state in search of covered bridges.  I would photograph them and then he would create an oil painting from the photo.  He would have loved to paint this scene!

Why do I think of Mr. Ed and Wilbur when I look at this image?!  All this scene really needs is a beautiful white horse looking out of the door and it would be just perfect!  Now I can’t get the Mr. Ed theme song out of my head…..uh oh!   Mr. Ed was one of my favorite TV shows when I was little!   http://bussongs.com/songs/a-horse-is-a-horse-mr-ed-tv-show.php

I am a huge fan of contrasting textures in photography.  For example, this old weathered barn with the chipped and faded paint vs. the soft delicate orange lilies that are growing beside it.  I see so many of these orange flowers as I’m driving around the countryside in the summer.  I’m told that some grow wild and those are called Tiger Lilies or Ditch Lilies.  The ones that we buy at the garden center are typically Daylilies.  Daylilies bloom for just a day and are pretty much carefree in the garden. I was happy to have these orange lilies add a punch of color to this distressed barn.

The turquoise doors on this barn caught my eye.  It’s not a color that you often see on a barn door.  I love it.  The moody sky was a bonus in this late afternoon drive through the country over the weekend.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Lancaster County, Pa. sits this beautiful farmhouse.  I can’t begin to tell you where it is because I have no idea.  I shot this image on one of those days when I was meandering along the back roads and enjoying the countryside.   I do remember that storms were expected and I was hoping for some moody skies to photograph, but that never happened.   I had to settle for a touch of blue sky with some wispy clouds floating above the farmland.
