I was lost in Morgantown, Pa. trying to find a Lowe’s that I spotted from the turnpike.  The GPS didn’t show it as it’s a new store.   The old point & shoot was in the car and lo and behold, I end up behind a horse & buggy for MILES.  I dare not pass as we’re on a narrow winding 2-lane road.  In the back of my mind I’m thinking – “Must take a photo!”   So, I snapped a quick one through the windshield.  This is it.  Could be better quality, but this is the ultimate example of “buggy-pooling” [instead of car-pooling] in this 6-seater!  Clip-clop-clip-clop-clip-clop!

Here’s another image of the water lily in my garden.  It bloomed for 3 days…yesterday was the last.  I’m glad that I photographed it when I did.  The flower itself was only open for about 6 or 7 hours a day.   Photographing flowers in the sun is a big no-no in my book, but given that this one was only open between about 10:30 and 4:30 and it was a bright sunny day…what choice did I have?  I actually liked the way the sun was lighting up the flower, but not casting as much light on the lily pads surrounding it.  I decided I’d try this one in black and white…the color version is below.

I was watching a few Pennsylvania Dutch children woodworking at the Kutztown Folk Festival.  They were all dressed in traditional clothing – straw hats and suspenders for the boys and pretty flowered dresses for the girls.  I couldn’t help but notice that several of the children were barefoot.  They didn’t seem to mind running and playing without shoes on the macadam, grass, straw and dirt.  In contrast, some of the boys wore heavy leather boots which seemed out of place in the heat of the summer on a child.  This image perfectly captures what I remember about that scene.

Yesterday the Bucks County Kennel Club held a Match Show at Mercer Museum/Fonthill in Doylestown.  The rain may have kept attendance a bit light, but it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of the dogs and humans that were there!  It was so fun to see the dogs braving the steady rain to strut their stuff for the judges.  I wasn’t sure what to expect from my images as I was holding an umbrella while trying to protect my camera gear and still hoping for some nice shots.  All in all I am pleased with the images…this is a favorite.  I think this little guy is standing under his handler and hoping to keep dry!  This was a good exercise in photographing in ‘less than perfect’ weather and lighting conditions, so I’m very happy that I went to the show.  I hope all of the dogs were treated to a nice warm bubbly bath and extra treats when they got home last night!  🙂

This cute Chinese Crested was plopped on mom’s lap waiting her turn in the ring at the Burlington County Kennel Club Dog Show a few weeks ago.  The handler was wearing a pretty white dress with dragonflies on it and with a white dog in tow they looked very classy.  The Chinese Crested comes in 2 varieties – hairless and powder puff.  Interestingly enough,  some of each can be born in the same litter!  This is the hairless variety.  Most of the dog’s body is hairless with the exception of the head, feet and tail.   Being a hairless breed requires extra attention to the skin.  For example, their skin can get sunburned and so extra caution must be taken and sunscreen applied.   They also get cold in the winter more easily.  I think they are so adorable!
