I’ve always liked cows! When I was little, my family would often take a ride through the country on Sunday evenings to the dairy bar to play a round of miniature golf and have ice cream. There was always that familiar “scent” in the air when we left town and reached “the country”. I was always hanging out the car window looking for animals along the way … mostly we saw cows and deer grazing in the fields. Later on, my first apartment was situated in the country, across the road from a dairy farm. For a whole week in the spring you couldn’t open the windows when they fertilized the fields. Now my kitchen is decorated with cows! Ahhh….the memories! This friendly cow was posing for me during a recent visit to Lancaster County, Pa.

I love things that remind me of favorite places. For example, every time I see a seagull, I think of fun times spent at the beach when I was a kid. When I see a windmill, I think of long drives in the country. I don’t live anywhere near the beach, but I do live near the countryside that is dotted with pretty white barns, silos, and yes, windmills. This scene is from Lancaster County, Pa. – one of my favorite areas to visit. I will never tire of seeing the horse & buggies clip clop along the long winding country roads.

I was headed from Point A to Point B in Allentown over the weekend and had a “Whoa! Stop!” moment when I spotted this scene in a park. It was an area with a horse riding trail, museum and these beautiful pink and white trees! This was photographed with the Lensbaby Composer and Soft Focus Optic. I am getting lazy and don’t feel like dragging my tripod around, so the Lensbaby is just the ticket for shooting hand-held. I decided to remove most of the sky as the blue really distracted me. Should I have cropped more to remove ALL of the sky? I’m not sure….

This image was taken a couple years ago at Quiet Valley Living History Farm in the Poconos in Pennsylvania. It’s a 3-shot HDR image taken with my Canon 135mm soft focus lens. I wasn’t sure how HDR would work with soft focus images, but I really like the result.

My recent hard drive crash and subsequent retrieval of files has made me realize just HOW many images I keep. Practically all of them. I know, I know….that’s probably not the best idea because it takes up a ton of hard drive space. Add to that the fact that I bracket a lot for HDR, which triples [or more!] the number of shots. BUT, it’s fun to go back through old files to see what I can find and work with later. Like this scene from last October. Now that I’ve given it a second look and worked on it a bit, I think it’s a keeper. P.S. Let me know if you find any good sales on external hard drives! 🙂
