This wreath and the row of trees caught my eye one day last week when I was driving on the road alongside the cemetery. I forgot about it until the snow came over the weekend and then I decided to take a ride and see if my vision was what I expected when I was in the cemetery and closer to the subject. Seeing all of the Christmas wreaths with bright red bows decorating the graves reminds of those I am missing this holiday season … and every day of the year.

I’ve only ever had the privilege of photographing bluebirds a few times and all were last winter at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area. Bluebird populations have decreased so it is important to place nesting boxes in appropriate areas in order to help conserve local bird populations. I was hopeful that I could attract bluebirds to our yard, but the area is too wooded. Bluebirds like an open habitat, which is why you often see bluebird houses in open fields and rural countryside. This one was mounted on a fence in a garden area at Burnside Plantation in Bethlehem, Pa.

I think this has quickly become one of my all-time favorite photos! Dad was photographing mom and baby in the sunflower field last weekend and I grabbed this quick photo when they turned around to admire the huge blooms.
