I knew that it was only a matter of time before I could no longer resist the Lensbaby Velvet 56.  This is the newest lens produced by the always creative Lensbaby team.  It’s a manual portrait AND macro lens that is 56mm and f/1.6 and yields the softness that I love for flower photography.  I just can’t put it down!  Thank you Lensbaby!

Today would have been my dad’s 100th birthday.  He was born 4/30/1915.  I recall that dad enjoyed taking a mid-day nap on the weekends from time to time.  Being the little instigator that I was, I would go over and poke him and ask, “Dad, are you sleeping?”  He would always respond, “No, not sleeping, just resting my eyes.”  If dad was “resting his eyes” and I tickled the bottom of his feet, he would let out a scream that the whole neighborhood could hear.   That’s what I think Brewster is doing in this photo… sitting in the window and just resting his eyes.  I bet if I poked him, he would bounce right up and be ready for playtime.  I don’t think he would mind if I tickled his paws, either.  Dad would have loved Brewster.

The tender young flowers of Spring are in bloom!  I remember the days, not so very long ago, when I would sit, kneel, or stoop down low to the ground with my trusty macro lens and photograph at Longwood Gardens.  Now I find myself looking for potted varieties that I can bring up to a higher level to photograph more easily.  Getting up from those positions is becoming more and more difficult!  Either I’m old, or really out of practice (er…shape!) … or both!

Daffodils symbolize rebirth and new beginnings.  They herald in the Spring season with a blast of color that transforms even the most dreary landscape!  It’s been a long wait, but they are finally here!  I have several varieties and am waiting to see if my pink and white ones make an appearance!  Time will tell….

Spring has been a long time coming.  I couldn’t wait to see flowers again in my garden.  Finally the earth is coming back to life!  Every evening after work I take a stroll through the garden to see what is new since the day before.  Today my daffodils are fully open and my tulips and hyacinth bulbs are well on their way.  Ah, Spring…..my favorite time of year!
