Snow Drops are probably the first flower that blooms in my garden each Spring. They are tiny little things, just a couple of inches high, and so photographing them pretty much requires laying on the ground. For this shot I used the Lensbaby Composer, Soft Focus Optic, a couple macro lenses, and no tripod. I wasn’t crazy about the Snow Drop images as they were just ho-hum, but I decided to try the Fractalius filter on this one. Now I’m really happy with it as it adds a glow that isn’t in the original shot. Fractalius also darkened up the background which was out of focus brown, yet-to-be-raked, leaves. I wonder what will bloom in my garden next?

Happy Spring everyone! This is my very favorite time of year as there is always something blooming in my garden! Right now I have snow drops, crocus’ and iris’. It’s hard to believe that just a few weeks ago we were buried in snow! This tulip came from the grocery store, but is a nice reminder that the ones in my garden are sprouting and will soon be in bloom as well! I photographed this tulip with the Lensbaby Composer, Soft Focus Optic, and a couple macro lenses. I love the pastel colors that are both warm and cool tones in this image.

Super soft calla – photographed with the Lensbaby Composer, Soft Focus Optic, macro attachments +4 and +10. My favorite part about photographing plants that I bought at the greenhouse? The fact that the flower is in a pot that I can move around and photograph from all kinds of different angles. That’s not always possible with plants in the garden. Plus, it’s WAY easier on my back! 🙂
