I love photographing the beautiful farms and soft rolling hills of Lancaster County, Pa. My dad loved to paint landscapes. I remember him telling me as he painted that he had to be sure that the mountains, hills or trees toward the back of his scene were always softer and lighter in color than those in the front. You can really see how true that is in this image. The foreground trees are crisp and vivid and the farms and hills looking from foreground to background continue to look lighter and less defined. Fall in Lancaster County, Pa. is one of the prettiest places on earth!

It’s fun to allow the GPS to search for new and interesting places to visit. I was driving home from a familiar destination recently and asked the GPS to search for parks near my route. Lo and behold, within a short driving distance I arrived at this beautiful barn and nearby lake. It was a great and very unexpected find. Thank goodness for the GPS, though, or I would have had difficulty finding my way home again! I was on many a back road and really had no idea where I was!

Several times a day on weekends, trains pass through this crossing filled with folks enjoying the Fall foliage. There are always a lot of photographers lined up along the side of the road with still and video cameras poised to capture the event. Today all was quiet between excursions and so I photographed the brilliant colors as I was driving over the tracks. This location never disappoints in Fall.

I don’t remember flowers blooming in October when I was a kid. I don’t even remember buying Fall mums to decorate our porch. Once Labor Day arrived, summer was officially over! But these days summer weather continues and our gardens are still colorful well into Fall. I will hang on to every last ounce of that for as long as I can. Here’s a beautiful Dahlia photographed with the Lensbaby Velvet 56.

One of my most favorite places in the whole world is the water lily display at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa. I could spend DAYS there photographing the lotus and water lilies. The flowers bloom from late May through mid-October, so if you want to see them, you are running short on time. I think this variety is called Nymphaea Aquarius. I love the combination of purple and sunshine yellow! How can you not smile when you see beautiful flowers like this?
