…in a one horse open sleigh…o’er the fields we go…laughing all the way! This scene in Lancaster County, Pa. was Christmas card worthy! While I expect to see a horse and buggy as I am traveling through the countryside, I was thrilled with the unexpected surprise of seeing a horse-drawn sleigh on a winter afternoon! I added a painting effect to the photo with Topaz Impression.

A winter sunset in Lancaster County, Pa. What a gorgeous part of the state any time of year, but especially in winter. The landscape is dotted with farms, silos, creeks, old barns, cows, horses, and winding country roads. On my latest visit, I turned off the GPS and followed a horse and buggy onto a narrow road high above the countryside. Lost in the photo opportunities before me, it was a beautiful way to end the day!

Yes, I am absolutely counting the days until Spring! I can’t wait! Birds singing, flowers blooming, a warm breeze, and driving with the sunroof open! That’s what I call a perfect day! It won’t be long….we just have to endure a few more snowstorms and some cold weather, but we can do it! Just think of the cold and snowy weather as a temporary inconvenience!

When I left for work this morning it was 5 degrees Fahrenheit outside. By the time I arrived, it had dropped to 1 degree Fahrenheit. Brrrrr! Tonight we are expecting 1″ to 3″ of snow. I need to escape to a warm, sunny beach and feel the sand between my toes. Revisiting my summer beach photos is just what I need to tide me over until “real” beach weather arrives! “tide” me over….get it? Just a little beach humor to help with the winter time blues!

The first snow of the season usually involves some drama. There are the folks who say “Hooray, snow! Bring it on!” Then there is the “Ugh, snow – how many months until Spring?” crowd. Some of us think it’s beautiful while others think it’s just an annoyance. I’m generally on the “How many months until Spring” side of the fence, but I do enjoy photographing at least the first snowfall nonetheless! These two images were taken in my backyard last week and edited with Topaz Impression to add a painting effect. I love the dark evergreen trees combined with the oak leaves that are still hanging on despite the winter cold. Today we had a little more snow along with sleet and freezing rain! Winter is definitely upon us, despite what the calendar says. Enjoy nature’s ever-changing beauty!
