I haven’t seen deer in my yard in a very long time. Before homes were built on either side of my property, they used to come through regularly. I don’t know if they have altered their path or if there are just less deer in the neighborhood. While making dinner this afternoon I glanced out the kitchen window and saw this doe along with one of her babies munching on the plants in my back yard. Isn’t she beautiful? I guess this could explain why I didn’t have so many flowers this year! 🙂 I sure didn’t want to scare her off because I love seeing wildlife in my yard. I grabbed my camera and managed a few quick images before they moved back into the woods. What a treat to see them today! I hope they enjoyed their dinner in my flower garden!

On my way home from an appointment today I saw a double rainbow. From my experience it seems that rainbows appear and disappear again pretty quickly. But today I was able to watch the rainbow for nearly 1/2 hour of driving time. It was so pretty! I happened to have my camera in the car so I pulled over and took a couple images, but they just don’t do the scene justice. Once back home in my community I noticed that the trees are starting to show some signs of color, so I snapped this image of the road I travel every day. When I see this scene before me I know that I am almost home! The same image is below in black and white.

Mother Nature has been brutal this summer in my neck of the woods. First there was a hail storm in late May that damaged homes and cars, then a horrific storm in early July with wind shear that took down 1,500 trees in my community and left us without power. September has brought Hurricane Irene and just this past week, the remnants of tropical storm Lee which caused torrential rains and flooding. Today I needed to go out and take a walk to try and appreciate the beauty in the world around me and de-stress. The lake was very peaceful – just a couple people on the beach and a boat or two on the water . Soon these boats will be removed and the docks pulled in preparation for winter. I hope to enjoy the last days of summer here as much as I can!

Sending thoughts and prayers to everyone along the East coast that may be in the path of the hurricane.
Stay safe!

The other day when I pulled into the driveway, I saw something brown run around the side of the garage. When I peeked around the corner, I saw that it was a groundhog. Today I saw the groundhog having lunch in my flower bed. I think my pretty lilies are on the menu…..! Here’s a photo from a week or so ago. I may never see these again! 🙁
