This mom knew what she was doing when she selected a spot for her nest!  It’s underneath the tiles of a roof high above the ground where there is protection from rain, wind, sun and predators.  The little babies have a cozy spot where they wait for mom to bring them snacks.  How cute are these baby birds?

I love the curve of this Speedwell and the gradual variation in the amount of bloom from one end to the other.  The new flower bursting forth from the leaves on the bottom right is a bonus!

58,000 names.  58,000 hearts and lives given in service to our country.  Each one with family and friends and a story to be told.  Even though I don’t personally know anyone whose name is on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial ‘moving wall’, I cried when I read the names and saw family members who were grieving.  We must keep all who serve our country – past, present and future – in our thoughts and prayers for they sacrifice more than we can ever imagine.

I had the privilege of visiting the Vietnam Veterans “Moving Wall” Memorial over the weekend.  The Moving Wall is a half-sized replica of the Memorial in Washington, DC that honors the men and women who lost their lives in the Vietnam War and it has been touring the country for more than 30 years.  Seeing the wall was a very sad and reflective experience.  I watched as visitors searched for the names of their loved ones and placed photos and flowers nearby.  Parents explained the meaning of the memorial to their children and dedicated volunteers worked to ensure that each panel of names was kept clean.  I took a few photos, but felt very wrong in doing so at such a reverent place.

The bumble bees love purple Allium.  I’ve never tried growing this flower in my garden, but I think I will need to put it on my list to add for next year.
