Category: Painting Effect

Hmmm…..signs are often interesting if you read them closely.  In this image you’ll see that the Marketplace has two floors of fine shops that sell gifts, antiques, foods, fine linens, jewelry, bath and body care products, etc.  BUT….were the items sold in the stores all a result of the escapades of the “Dumpster Diva”?  I don’t know about you, but I’m not so sure I want to buy food or body care items that potentially came from someone who was dumpster diving!  Eeeckkk!    I didn’t venture into the store, but I think I will next time I’m in town…I’ll bet there are more photo ops inside!  The same image with a watercolor effect is below.

The Fall color in my area this year has not been consistent.  It seemed vibrant several weeks ago, then became very drab, spruced up for a couple days with bright reds and yellows, and now seems to be headed straight to brown.  I’ve not had much interest in going out to photograph the colors, but I did snap these 2 images recently at the Lake.  The leaves had gathered near the beach in the shallow water and there was quite a variety of shapes and colors.  I think these images would make fun {and difficult!}  jigsaw puzzles!  Both were processed with Topaz and the one below followed up with a painted effect.

I’m taking advantage of the cooler temperatures to get out for a walk as often as I can.   I usually take my camera in the hopes of grabbing a shot or two along the way.  This evening the beach was unusually empty – odd for a holiday weekend.  These 3 girls were busy at the shoreline playing in the sand.  The ripples from the boats on the lake made a nice pattern on the water and the sun was touching the grass to add a golden glow.  I could picture an artist sitting on the beach painting this scene, so I decided to process the image with a watercolor effect.

I happened to be photographing a couple of buildings in a historic park when I saw this family enjoying lunch at a picnic table.  I wonder if all of the children are brothers and sisters?  If so, I see 7 of them!  I didn’t want the faces in this image to be recognizable so I processed with painting software to add distortion.  I was quite a distance away and shooting through some trees, so you can see leaves at the top and on the right, which can either be distracting or help to frame the subject.  For me I don’t mind the leaves at all.  Without them at the top there is quite a large open grassy area and the leaves help to fill in the space.  What a nice way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon!

I planted 100 summer blooming flower bulbs in my garden back in May.  I created 2 new flower beds around a fence and wheel barrow that are in my back yard.  Lo and behold, the bulbs are up and starting to bloom.   I’ve had some oriental lily, liatris, and now gladiola.  It’s fun to look out of my window and see color where there never was color before.  I think the gladiola needs to be supported as the flowers are large and drooping at the moment.  I’ve never grown these before, so it’s all new to me!  I’m just so happy to have more flowers blooming in my garden!  Living in a wooded area where the soil is very rocky presents many gardening challenges, so it’s always fun when I have success at growing new plants.  Check back tomorrow for a story about a garden surprise!
